Carriage Bolts are often used in wood or metal to wood applications. The top is domed, and it has a square body under the bolt head. The square body is what pulls into the wood as the nut is tightened. Length is measured from under the head to the end of the bolt. Steel is Zinc plated for moderate protection against rust.
Always use a flat washer between the wood and the hex nut when using carriage bolts. This will eliminate the pull-through of the nut in the wood.
Always soap up the stainless-steel thread before use because otherwise it could lead to the thread locking up and then the bolt will not be able to be removed or tightened.
